REGISTRATION OF DANCERS

  1. All Australian dancers must be registered with the State/Regional Committee in which they are domiciled.

  2. Dancers are not permitted to register until the age of four (4) years.

  3. Pre-Premier dancers (including Primary) to receive Registration Scheme Acknowledgment pertaining to the SOBHD/ABHDI registration scheme. This form is to be signed and returned to the Dancer Registrar,acknowledging full understanding of the registration scheme prior to changing category. This form will only be issued to:-

    1. a dancer making application to register for the first time.

    2. a Primary dancer prior to reaching his/her seventh birthday.

  4. Premier and Pre-Premier (including Primary) overseas dancers are not to register with an Australian State/Regional Committee of Highland Dancing if currently registered in a country in which the SOBHD Premier and Pre-Premier registration scheme is in operation.

  5. Application must be made on the approved form.

  6. Registration Application Forms will be available from Teachers and the State/Regional Committee and should be correctly filled in and posted to the Dancer Registrar of the State/Regional Committee.

  7. Each competitor, having been accepted into the scheme, will be allocated a registration card and number. The number indicates the State/Regional Committee with whom they are registered, the year they are registered for and their own personal identification number.

  8. The registration card must be taken to all competitions. This card will be checked prior to the commencement of the competition. The Competition Organiser can ask for the registration card to be produced at any time throughout the course of a competition.

  9. The dancerís registration number must appear on the entry form to be eligible to enter competitions.

  10. When a competitor has been successful in a Pre-premier competition (excluding Primary), the registration card must be presented to the Competition Organiser for marking prior to prize being given to the competitor.

  11. In Pre-premier competition, the registration card (for Beginner, Novice and Intermediate dancers) will be marked only once during the course of a competition and it will cover 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes awarded at that competition. Marking of registration cards should take into account that Beginner cards must not be marked for any places awarded in the Scottish Lilt or Flora McDonald's Fancy.

  12. The Dancer Registrar and/or nominated personnel of highland dancing competitions are the only persons authorised to record on the registration card. Unauthorised alterations to this card will automatically render it void. Authorised personnel must be 18 years and over)

  13. The cards will be marked with date of competition, the competition number and the initials of the authorised personnel. (ABHDI 1/10/88 p5 Adhoc Authorised personnel must be 18 years and over)

  14. Beginner registration cards will be marked at every competition where they win a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in any of the highland dances ie. Highland Fling, Sword Dance (Ghillie Challum), Seann Truibhas, Strathspey & Reel, Special or Trophy Fling. A competitor's card is marked only once at each competition.

  15. Novice registration cards will be marked at every competition where they win a 1st, 2nd or 3rd prize in any dance. A competitor's card is marked only once at each competition.

  16. Intermediate registration cards will be marked at every competition where they win a 1st, 2nd or 3rd prize in any dance. A competitor's card is marked only once at each competition.

  17. If only three competitors dance in a Beginner or Novice section then only one prize can be awarded and it must be a 1st prize and the card stamped accordingly. (ABHDI May 2003 p9)

  18. Where three prizes are awarded in Pre-premier sections (1st, 2nd and 3rd) registration cards must be marked accordingly. Additional prizes are awarded at the discretion of the Organiser if warranted, but the registration card must not be marked.

  19. In a Pre-premier Title or similar event, cards must be marked 1st, 2nd and 3rd for individual dances equivalent to the number of prizes awarded overall. Beginner cards are not marked for Scottish Lilt or Flora McDonald's Fancy. (ABHDI Gen 156 April/May 2011 p16)

  20. If a Highly Commended certificate or card is awarded for 1st, 2nd or 3rd place, the registration card must be marked.

  21. Faxed copies of registration cards are not acceptable. (SOBHD 362)

  22. Premier cards must have the valid date completed on back of registration cards.

  23. Change of level (classification) if competing at 2 separate competitions (different competition numbers) held on 2 consecutive days. Dancers in this situation must be prepared with the appropriate form and new photographs in anticipation of the possibility, to ensure a smooth transition. Cards of dancers from other areas who dance a different level on the second day, must not be cut up. The card should be sent to the Dancer Registrar of the dancer's home area with advice of any places obtained. Competition Organisers and Dancer Registrars should ensure swift communication, both between themselves and where necessary, the relevant State or Regional Dancer Registrar.

  24. Any competitor unable to produce a registration card will forfeit the prize until such time as it is produced. The card should be produced within 10 days. If not produced, competitor's name and number will be passed to the relevant Dancer Registrar, who may advise all Organisers not to accept any entry from the competitor until such matters are satisfactorily cleared up.

  25. If a dancer has failed to produce a registration card to a Competition Organiser, a registration form must be completed by the dancer or their Parent/Guardian. If a prize is awarded to this dancer, this is to be marked by the Competition Organiser on the registration form. The form is then forwarded to the Dancer Registrar with the results of the competition.

  27. Loss of registration card

    1. In the event of a competitor losing his/her registration card, a replacement card will be provided on the payment of a penalty to be decided by their State/Regional Committee. (ABHDI 1/4/01 p4)
      1. Two (2) identical passport size photos to be provided for new card, plus a stamped self-addressed envelope.
      2. Fee for replacement registration card for SQRCHDI is $5.00.

  28. Requirements to register a new Highland Dancer

    1. A completed current registration form.
    2. Two (2) identical passport size photos. They do not have to be official photos.
    3. A copy of birth certificate, birth extract or passport.
    4. Payment of fees to SQRCHDI via cheque, cash or direct debit.
      1. One year full fee is $50.00 which covers registration and other levies.
      2. Half yearly registration, commencing 1 July, for new registrations only, is $35.00 which covers registration and other levies.
    5. Please include a stamped self-addressed envelope with above paperwork.
    6. Mail the above to the Dancer Registrar at the following address:

  29. Requirement for registration renewals

    1. The previous year's registration card
    2. A completed registration form
    3. Payment of fees to SQRCHDI via cheque, cash or direct debit
    4. A stamped self-addressed envelope
    5. Mail the above to the Dancer Registrar at the above address
    6. If a dancer requires a new registration card (or are planning to compete overseas), 2 identical passport size photos are also required.

  30. Requirement for change of classification

    1. The completed registration card
    2. A new classification registration form
    3. 2 identical passport size photos
    4. A stamped self-addressed envelope
    5. Mail the above to the Dancer Registrar at the above address

  31. Competition Results

  32. Competition Organisers are required to send a list, in alphabetical order, of all Beginner, Novice and Intermediate dancers, including registration numbers, to the Dancer Registrar of the State/Regional Committee within 2 weeks of the date of the competition. This list should be marked showing prize winners who have had their cards marked. For Intermediate dancers, it should include all prize winners and note which Intermediate dancers had their card marked.

    Competition Organisers will also be required to send a completed programme showing all results at the competition to the Dancer Registrar.

    Note: Only 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes are counted in the registration scheme. Beginner dancers do not have cards marked for Scottish Lilt or Flora McDonald's Fancy.
